All of my hosting customers are setup with Google Apps which is how you have a Gmail account using your own domain. Current users and those who sign up until the limit is put in place will be grandfathered in and still have the ability to create up to 50 user accounts.

(via LifeHacker.com) I read about a scary “glitch” this morning regarding the wipeout of 150,000 gmail accounts. I am not aware of any of “our” users being affected at this point. This can be a gruesome reminder of what can happen if your data is not backed up. Google provides some great services but anything can happen even with the most stable services. In the lifehacker.com article many of the readers have commented about a service I wasn’t aware of but am now trying out. Backupify.com will backup several cloud based services including gmail, google calender, and google contacts (other services like facebook also). You can sign up for a free account which allows you to backup 5 accounts and gives you 2GB of storage. This should be plenty for gmail contacts, calender, and probably email unless you save a lot attachments. Setup is very easy if you are already signed into your gmail account, just go to www.backupify.com and click signup!

Note: I am not affiliated with with backupify.com in any way it just comes as a highly recommended option for backing up your cloud data and I wanted to pass on the info

What does this mean?? Well, all of my web hosting customers have their email accounts setup under Google Apps. This allows the use of the awesome features of Gmail but with your own domain name. With Google Apps domains comes a few cool other features like Google Docs and Gtalk the instant messaging service. Just this week Google as released the full integration of ALL of the great services it offers, with Google Apps accounts. This means you can tie in many more services and keep track of them all using your personal Google Apps email accounts. Watch the video and check the link for more details on activating this on your Google Apps domain. I have just activated the new features on our WarrenReptiles domain so we will be diving right in. Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you want this activated on your domain. The Google documentation will have more details than I do at this point but I will do my best to answer any questions.

Well spring anyway It’s been hotter then heck already this spring here in MI. Not much new to report other than business as usual. We ordered a new enclosure for my wife’s rapidly growing red tail boa last week from www.boaphileplastics.com and excited about the arrival in a few weeks. Our African soft-fur rat population is growing again after cutting back over the winter. I am getting spring fever and wanting to look into more new enclosures for my snakes, maybe trying to sell a couple and focus on just a couple pairs I want to breed…I don’t know, we’ll see what happens. Oh and I have a tattoo appointment scheduled! My first, and a bad ass design if I do say so myself. I can’t wait to get it done, it’s my “turning 30″ idea and is of course reptile related.

Well I just cut over to the new website. It was long overdue for a face lift and a better method to keep it updated. Since this site has never been overly complicated I decided to go with WordPress and use it manage the site. Since all I really have going on is a few mostly static pages I think this work out well. I will be tweaking things here there I’m sure but its good enough for now. The only thing really not incorporated yet is the photo gallery which I will work on next.

Happy Spring!
